In a momentous celebration of academic heritage and exceptional achievements, the city of Ozamiz has bestowed the Asenso Ozamiz Diamond Award upon Misamis University during the 75th Charter Day celebration of Ozamiz. The esteemed institution, marking its ninety-fourth (94th) year of continuous service, has stood as a beacon of education, fostering academic excellence not only within the province but beyond.
The Asenso Ozamiz Diamond Award series was initiated as part of the local commendations, aiming to recognize outstanding contributions to the city's historical, cultural, and socioeconomic development. With a vision to uphold the importance of education, science, and technology, the city government found it fitting to honor Misamis University as the oldest institution offering tertiary learning in Ozamiz.
Since its establishment in 1929 as Kolambugan Academy, the university has consistently adapted and evolved, fulfilling its mission to provide high-quality education to generations of learners. In 1931, it moved to its current location in Misamis (now Ozamiz City) and took on the name Misamis Institute. Finally, in 1977, it was elevated to university status, solidifying its place as a key player in shaping the region's educational landscape.
With an impressive array of over 60 CHED-Accredited degree programs, Misamis University has demonstrated its commitment to maintaining excellence across various fields. Particularly, the University's programs in Information Technology, Education, and Criminology have received the prestigious Center of Development statuses, further exemplifying its dedication to academic growth and specialization.
Because of MU's relentless pursuit of academic excellence and its unwavering dedication to the holistic development of its students, the Asenso Ozamiz Diamond Award was awarded as a testament to the university's remarkable journey and its significant contributions to the city's growth and progress.
